As an Arizona mom, I’ve been screaming NO! on Arizona Prop 205 from the start. But just like people are not reading the Democratic party platform (read Why Moms Should Be Afraid of the Democratic Party Platform), nobody seems to be reading Prop 205!
A NO vote on Arizona Proposition 205 means you do NOT want marijuana to be legal for recreational use in Arizona.
[Tweet “#AZ Parents Vote No on Prop 205. Protect our kids from pot industry fallout. #prop205 #noprop205”]
Please read the asinine full initiative text for Arizona Prop 205 here that wants to add a huge new government arm to regulate selling recreational pot in our towns and cities. Do not confuse this with medical marijuana use, which is already legal in every state.
Recreational marijuana use is a different beast; can you really compare your grandma using marijuana to help her gain weight so she can fight cancer to a twenty-six-year-old barrista smoking dope by the dumpster on his break?
If you do not vote against Arizona Prop 205, you’ll see marijuana stores popping up all over the state. In your town. Oh, and they only have to put them 500 feet away from schools—except, they only specify Kindergarten and first through twelfth grade. That means they can open a marijuana store next to your child’s preschool. They also don’t prohibit marijuana stores opening next to city parks.
Break the Marijuana Laws for the Low, Low Price of “Not More Than $300.”
The phrase you want to remember here is “not more than $300,” because according to the Arizona Prop 205 text, the maximum anyone will pay for breaking most of the recreational marijuana laws is $300. You’ll also find the occasional “up to 24 hours community service” penalty. This is not the type of law enforcement I expect from a state that loves Sheriff Joe Arpaio.
Even an indigent miscreant can get their hands on “not more than $300.” There is essentially no deterrent for breaking the recreational marijuana laws.
I’ve only lived in Arizona for a couple years, but man, I thought we were better than this. How horrified are you with the idea of pot being legal? It’s not as though today’s kids are such go-getters that they really need one more thing to hold them back from achieving…well, at this point, I’d settle for kids achieving anything at all.
Read the initiative. If you want the highlights of how Arizona Prop 205 will affect your kids, here are the tweets I posted as I read through this rubbish. (Click on any tweet and it will take you to Twitter where you can retweet.)

Arizona Schools Will Never See a Dime of Prop 205 Marijuana Money
If the pot stores don’t pay their taxes, that’s OK, as long as they “made a good faith effort”. Are you even kidding me right now?
42-3383 B:
THE DEPARTMENT MAY WAIVE ANY PENALTY OR INTEREST IF IT DETERMINES THAT THE MARIJUANA RETAILER HAS MADE A GOOD FAITH ATTEMPT TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF THIS ARTICLE.
As always, the pot industry promises to build schools. but we know how that goes. Hey, the pot industry did tell you ahead of time that schools would only get 40% of the leftover revenue (no, there won’t be any) and that money can only go to fund full day Kindergarten. Yeah, that’s the problem with AZ schools: we don’t have enough full day Kindergartens. You can’t make this stuff up.
[Tweet “#AZ parents, #Prop205 money only funds full day Kindergarten, and won’t be paid anyway. #noprop205”]
THE DEPARTMENT OF MARIJUANA LICENSES AND CONTROL SHALL TRANSFER EACH QUARTER ALL MONIES IN EXCESS OF THE AMOUNT NEEDED TO IMPLEMENT AND ENFORCE THIS CHAPTER IN ANY FISCAL YEAR AS FOLLOWS….
Two guesses as to how much of the grab will be needed to implement and enforce recreational marijuana use in Arizona?
If you guessed ALL OF IT, you win! Or lose. Depending on how you vote. Vote NO on Arizona Prop 205!
