Is boughtmilk.com a scam? I assume everything on the internet is either an advertisement or a scam. In fact, I refused to click through a link my mortgage lender sent me via email because the wording was so ridiculously spammy that even my 12-yr-old told me not to click it:

Have you seen the news about the Big Dairy lawsuit? U.S. dairy producers were sued because it was discovered that they killed half a million dairy cows so the milk supply would plummet and they could charge more for dairy products, i.e., price fixing. There is a line between Capitalism and Evil, and they crossed it. Now Big Dairy is getting its comeuppance, because the dairy producers who participated now have to pay out $52,000,000 to consumers in 15 states plus D.C. who bought dairy products at inflated prices. Really, that’s only about $100 per cow Big Dairy killed, so it’s the tiniest slap on the wrist.

Is boughtmilk.com a scam?
Boughtmilk.com is legit, says Snopes. Just make sure you make your claim at boughtmilk.com by January 31, 2017, and that you did live in one of the states listed below and bought milk/dairy at some point between 2003 and now.
Boughtmilk.com is the official site to visit to make your claim in the class action settlement against dairy producers who slaughtered cows to drive up dairy prices. Thanks, you Big Food jerks.

Which states are eligible for the milk lawsuit payout?
The only info required (so far) is your first and last name and email address; you also have to check the box that affirms you lived in one of the following states at some point between 2003 and now:
- Arizona
- California
- District of Columbia
- Kansas
- Massachusetts
- Michigan
- Missouri
- Nebraska
- Nevada
- New Hampshire
- Oregon
- South Dakota
- Tennessee
- Vermont
- West Virginia
- Wisconsin
I lived in California and Arizona between 2003 and now. I buy a crap ton of dairy products each week. (That’s a conservative estimate, and no, dairy is not Whole30 or Paleo. Dairy is, however, the food group my son and husband refuse to give up. Over sugar. Over bread. Really.) So I’ve registered with boughtmilk.com, the official site.

It’s estimated that the potential payout per person is only about $45–$70, but that’s better than a poke in the eye. At least the settlement is putting eyes on Big Dairy, and making this mom think twice before grabbing a gallon of milk at the grocery store.
