Week 5 Ketovore Diet Weight Loss Results:
- Weight loss: -4 lbs total (+3 lbs week 5, -1 lbs week 4, +1 lbs week 3, -4 lbs week 2; -3 lbs week 1)
- Waist: -2 inch total (-0 inches week 5, -0 inches week 4, -0.5 inches week 3, -0.5 inches week 2; -1 inch week 1)
- 1101 average calories per day. (About 400 fewer calories per day than in week 4.)
- 72 average protein per day. (About 20 fewer grams protein per day than in week 4.)
- 83 average fat per day. (About 30 fewer grams fat per day than in week 4.)
- 13 average carbs per day (high 20, low 6).
- Since I gained 3 lbs, and my bodyfat seems the same, I lowered calories and fat this week.
- I still don’t really get hungry, and usually don’t feel like eating anything after my second meal (usually eaten between 3-5 p.m.), which made it easy to keep my calories lower.
- I ate less dairy this week in order to keep the fat lower.
- I’m sleeping very hard, and for too long—about 9-10 hours a night.
- I burned my leg badly so could not exercise at all this week; I estimate I got only about 1,000 steps per day, if that.

Week 5 Ketovore Meal Ideas:
Ketovore Breakfast: I upped my collagen to 3 tbsp, and lowered my heavy cream to 2 tbsp. I am not feeling like I need caffeine in the morning, I’m practically drinking two cups of coffee so I can add the collagen and heavy cream.
My daily coffee: 2 cups of coffee, 3 Tbsp Great Lakes Collagen Peptides (75 calories, 18 grams protein), and 2 Tbsp heavy cream (100 calories).
My electrolyte drink:
- 2 tsp Calm magnesium citrate (The orange flavor is the best; the cherry flavor is awful.)
- 1/4 tsp Himalayan pink salt (I get mine at Winco for about $1/lb in the bulk bins but if you don’t have a Winco: Himalayan Pink Salt on Amazon)
- 1/4 tsp potassium chloride. I use NuSalt, which is about $1.50 at Winco. (Here’s a 3 pack on Amazon: NuSalt potassium chloride.)
- I stir it up in water and let it sit until it looks clear, about 10 minutes.
- I started drinking the electrolyte twice a day, which did improve my energy.
Ketovore Lunches:
- Bacon and eggs, chicken, celery with cottage cheese (mixed with fresh parsley and dill), swiss cheese, top sirloin steak with a little fresh cabbage, pepperoncinis, pico de gallo.
Ketovore Dinners:
- Everyone is getting very tired of chewing through a hunk of steak every day. We ate a lot of the petite sirloin steaks this week that were on sale at Fry’s, and the London Broil on sale at Safeway, but the steaks were pretty lean and therefore chewy, so I ended up slicing the cooked steaks in my food processor (this is the new version of the cheap food processor I’ve used forever) for carne asada.
- Ground beef for taco bowls. I ate the meat with pico de gallo, shredded cabbage, cheese, sour cream, and hot sauce; my husband and son usually topped the taco meat with cheese and sour cream and homemade hot sauce.
Family Ketovore/Carnivore Meal Prep Week 5:
- I grilled 8 lbs of ground beef burgers. I used the “organic, grass fed” ground beef packages from Winco. These are packed very tightly in square packages, so if you form burger patties from cold meat they grill up very dense. To avoid this, crumble all the meat into a bowl, let stand at room temperature for an hour or so, then form the patties.
- 8 lbs of London broil (cut into long, thick steaks).
- I cooked 5 lbs of bacon for the week.
- Grated 2 lbs of cheddar cheese in 30 seconds in my food processor. (This is the new version of the cheap food processor I’ve used forever.)
- Grated 1 lb of mozzarella by hand with a manual cheese grater. (I have this cheese grater.) Soft cheeses do not grate well in a food processor.
- We worked on getting through odds and ends of leftover meats so I didn’t do much meal prep this week.
- I grill as much as I can in one go, to keep from stinking up the house with greasy meat smell.
Family Ketovore Grocery Budget for Recipes Week 5:
- $2.97 per lb London broil, Safeway sale.
- $5.68 per lb for allegedly organic and grass-fed beef from Winco.
- $2.50 per lb cheddar and mozzarella cheese, Safeway sale. Current price at Winco for cheese is $3.68 per lb., but Fry’s and Safeway almost always have a sale on cheese.
- $10 for 16 lbs Kingsford charcoal, $0.62 per lb.
- With only 3/4 full charcoal chimney of Kingsford charcoal (My charcoal chimney holds 4 lbs, 10 oz of charcoal so I used 3.5 lbs here), I was able to grill 8 lbs of burgers and 8 lbs of London broil, plus could have used the residual heat to smoke a pork butt or grill more meats or vegetables. The price of charcoal has doubled over the last few years, so you can expect to pay $10 per 16 lbs without a sale, or $0.63 per lb. For my 3/4 full chimney, that’s $2.19 in charcoal for cooking fuel. The amount of beef I cooked covered about 6 meals for 4 people; about $0.37 per family meal for the charcoal, plus the energy used inside the house for reheating the meat as needed.
