I always check Rakuten before buying anything online, as well as check the merchant offers on all of my credit cards. For example, I start my iHerb shopping at Rakuten for cashback on my entire purchase, plus use a credit card with a 10% cashback offer at iHerb, plus use my iHerb free credits (you get $1 per review of items you’ve purchased at iHerb) along with current iHerb sales and coupon codes.
My local grocery stores Fry’s (Kroger) and Safeway/Albertson’s are usually on Rakuten too. I combine the Rakuten link with an online order coupon from the grocery store, and pay with my American Express Blue Cash Preferred credit card for an additional 6% cashback.
Start at Rakuten for your hotel reservations. You get extra cashback (often up to 10% cashback) and if you go directly from Rakuten to the hotel brand (IHG, Marriott, etc.), you’ll be booking directly with the hotel so you don’t get the third party treatment when you check in, and you can use your hotel rewards points and status too.
